Notes: Diamond is all smiles and then closes her eyes to make a wish for a forever home. She has been at the shelter for so long. She has food allergies and has to have special food and takes Apoquel once a day to help control her allergies. She is around 9 years old now but is still such a good sport about everything. She was even a champ at letting me trim her nails even after I put that "skirt" around her neck. Diamond has been with us since October 2020. She still has the most outgoing and loving personality. When she came in she was skin and bones with horrible skin and had a rope tied around her waist. She is an outstanding girl that is house trained and has a huge personality. She does fine with other dogs but is not a huge fan of dogs that jump all over her. Diamond is spayed, current on vaccinations, and has been treated for her heartworms. Diamond walks well on leash, is house trained. If you would like to donate to her continued specialized food and daily meds, it would be greatly appreciated.

One by one, they pass by my cage
Too old, too worn, too broken, they say
Way past his time, he can’t run and play
They shake their heads and go on their way
A little old man, arthritic and sore
It seems that I am wanted no more
I once had a home, I once had a bed
A place that was warm, and where I was fed
Now my muzzle is grey, and my eyes slowly fail
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?
My family decided I didn’t belong
I got in their way, my attitude wrong
Now I sit in this kennel, where day after day
The younger ones are chosen and taken away
When I had come to the end of my rope
You saw my face and again I knew hope
You saw past the grey, the legs wobbly with age
And felt I deserved life beyond this cage
You took me home, gave me food and a bed
You gently stroked my poor tired head
We snuggle and play, you talk to me low
You love me so dearly, and make sure I know
Although I have lived most of my life with another
You outshine them with a love so much stronger
I promise to return all the love I can give
To you my dear friend, as long as I live
I may be with you for a week, or for years
We will share many smiles, and a few tears
When the time comes, that God deems I must leave
I know you will cry and your heart it will grieve
When I arrive at the Bridge all brand new
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you
And I will brag to all who will hear
Of the person who made my last days so dear.

Adoption Application Form
Before you can adopt one of the dogs you need to complete our Adoption Application Form. Applications must be submitted and vetting/personal references must be checked before an adoption is completed. You will not be able to adopt a puppy or dog on the day of your visit if you do not have a verified application. Pre-approved applications have priority over new applications. Due to lack of volunteer time, we are only able to answer questions from prospective adopters that have filled out an application form.

Rainbow Animal Rescue has foster homes in the area of Roanoke Rapids and a kennel facility in Halifax, North Carolina. We welcome volunteers to foster dogs and help at the kennels.
